Introductions

Postby Kavik » Fri Nov 06, 2009 9:57 am

Hello all,

I noticed there wan'ta place for Introductions for new members, so I hope I'm not out of line by including a short one here.

I am new to the forum, but have been doing calligraphy and illumination (or reasonable facsimiles thereof ;) ) for about twenty five years. I am not a professional calligrapher, I just do it for the pleasure and occasional "side job". My main area of interest is Celtic calligraphy, though Medieval manuscripts are also somthing I try to emulate with some of my pieces. I am also interested in binding and the scribal arts in general (as well as all things Medieval, including music - I play several instruments and love Medieval/Rennaisance music).

One of my main advantages is that I am a Linguist (not a professional one though) and have done calligraphy in a number of different languages and alphabets both ancient and modern. I have also on many occasions translated a text to other languages for pieces.

I reside in New Hamphire which, as I understand it, falls under the Barony of Stonemarch, though I have not joined the Barony.

I joined the forum to hopefully learn a lot more about calligraphy and various styles and methods (and yes, hopefully I'll also learn a few new "tricks of the trade"). I have seen some of your work and it is amazing and very inspiring!

At some point I should probably post a few examples of pieces I have done - looking for a little constructive criticism with them.

Welcome to the forum!

I am in the far south of the Kingdom (Augusta, GA) but I hope that someday our paths may cross at an event.
